Advancement – Panel Assessment
A student’s ability to proficiently execute the level’s required class material and concepts is considered above all other factors before advancing a student. It is not in the student’s best interest and is potentially harmful to be placed in a level for which a dancer is not adequately prepared or physically strong enough. The goal is to challenge each student without creating frustration or a sense of failing. It is normal for a student to remain in a level for 1-3 years. It takes 10-12 years to fully train a dancer for a professional career.
A year-end assessment of a faculty panel watch the students in a class setting to determine what’s best for each student’s future development, as well as that of the school as a whole. This is typically the time a class change is recommended for summer or fall. However, in some circumstances, a student may be moved during the school semester.
